Text to Text
Out of My Mind by Sharon M. Draper, is about how a girl named Melody and how she as a disorder from birth that disables her to walk or talk. In the new section I am reading, Melody gets a new devise that allows her to communicate with people and she's making friends. Melody is a smart girl and has made her way on the Kidz Quiz team and is proving herself to other kids.
This character is like Auggie in Wonder because they both are judged by their appearance instead of their personality. In the book Wonder, Auggie has one true friend named Will and he sticks up for him when kids are being rude and obnoxious. This is similar to Out of My Mind because Melody has rose who is always there for her and sticks up for her when kids are being mean and unkind . Lastly, there is on main similarity in each book. In each book, both main characters, Auggie and Melody, have disabilities that keep them from doing what they want, only Melody can not walk and Auggie's deformity kept him from going to school until the fifth grade.
Both of these stories teach me that you shouldn't judge people by what they look like. Auggie is very smart and kind but people are "scared" of him by what he looks like due to his deformity. Same with Melody. Melody is a very intelligent and kind like Auggie but everyone is too busy making fun of her, they don't realize how good a friend she could be.
