Text to Text- Divergent
I am reading Divergent by Veronica Roth. Divergent is about a girl named Tris (Beatrice) who lives in a world where society is divided into five factions: Dauntless, Amity, Candor, Abnegation, and Erudite. As she turns 16, she has to go through a test called the Aptitude test to show which faction she belongs in. The aptitude test shows that she is divergent. Divergent means that she can't be categorized into one faction and are supposedly "the destruction of society". At the choosing ceremony, she chooses Dauntless, the brave, but she has to survive through initiation without her leaders finding out she's divergent. Her instructor Four, also divergent, guides her through initiation to survive and also leads up to a relationship that neither of them expected to have.
Tris from the book, Divergent, reminds me of everybody. Everybody has different traits and can't be fit into one characteristic. Four, Tris's instructor reminds of my friends, because they help me through situations and they give me advice to help better myself. Some of the events in the book remind me of the Hunger Games, because they're similar by being separated into groups, having to protect others, and being hurt physically through fights.
I like the way the author uses her word choice. It really shows how the characters feel in detail. The thrill of the books keep me on edge and make me want to read more. This story teaches that everyone is afraid of something. People act in spite of fear. For example, the Dauntless have to go through their fear landscape to face their fears. This story also teaches that sometimes, sacrifice is worth it and that's what I adore about this book.
