Text to World- Matched
Text To World: Matched
The book Matched is about a 17 year old girl named Cassie. She lives in a world where the society makes all of everyone choices. when the time came for her to be matched to get married she was so worried she would be with someone she didn't know. Cassie was so happy when she found out she was matched with her best friend, Xander. She was certain he was the one until, another person, Ky flashed on the screen before it turned black. She doesn't know who she really loves and if she should follow her heart or Society's choices.
Matched has a lot of text to world connections. One of the text to world connections is how the Society and government controls everyone and their choices. This connects to the world because many governments in other countries control the people. For example, during the Holocaust, Hitler forced all the Jews in Germany to go to concentration camps and they did not have a say in anything. Also in 1959- 2009 the leader of Cuba, Fidel Castro, became known as a symbol of communist revolution in Latin America. Just like how The Society in Matched controls everything.
In this book I was very surprised to see that Cassie decides to rebel against Society and their choices.Although, if I were Cassie I would probably follow Society's choices so that I wouldn't get in trouble. I just hope that Cassie and Ky don't get in trouble for learning how to write and making poems. Also, I like the way the author uses the characters words to express the feelings of the characters.
