Text to World: The Capture
The Capture
The Capture is about a young Barn Owl named Soren who is pushed out of his nest by his brother and is kidnapped by owls from a special school. He is forced to go to the school, St. Aegolius's Academy for Orphaned Owls. The school is very strict and has rules about everything, especially the way you sleep. You have to sleep with your face toward the sky. Soren and his new friend, Gyflie, figure out that the school is using a form of hypnotism called moon-blinking. They use the full moon to force the young owlets to comply to their wishes. Soren and Gyflie find a way to resist the hypnotism and try to find a way to escape, but they must wait until their flight feathers grow in.
Text to World
Soren and Gyflie are kidnapped and find out St. Aegolius's is trying to take over all the kingdoms. The number of children being kidnapped during the war in Afghanistan in 2004 rose rapidly. The children weren't kidnapped for the same reasons, but they still were kidnapped during a time of conflict. They were forced to do things against their will, like the owls were forced to follow the rules. The children were rescued, though, unlike the owls.
The character I most admire is Gyflie because she is so determined and brave. She knows she might get hurt, but she tries to help Soren escape anyway. She tells the impatient Soren what he wants to know if she has the knowledge. Even when they are facing danger, she is calm and collected. The most important thing to her is carrying out the plan and she doesn't give in to fear.
