Text to World: The Book Theif

The Book Thief      Imagine living in times where there are empty fuel tanks from planes left by their enemies spread throughout Himmel Streets in Germany. That is where Liesel Meminger's is living in the times of war. Her mother was not able to take care of her and her brother died so all of a sudden she is put into a foster home. She vaguely knows how to speak German and can't read so she is given a clean slate and tries to make the best of it. Her foster father had a dept to pay to a dear friend who died, so the family takes in his Jewish son, who will live in the basement, besides the cold winter nights, where he sleeps by the fire. In those times it is very dangerous to be keeping a Jew and the punishment can be death.        The problem in this story is similar and almost exactly the same to what happened in 1939, Nazi Germany. Text To Text: The Book Theif

Imagine hiding someone in your basement, but if anyone finds out about it you could die or be tortured. That is the feeling Liesle from The Book Thief by Markus Zusak  . She has lost her mother and brother and she had never met her dad. She now has to live with her foster parents Hans and Rosa Hubermann. She steals her first book from her brothers graveside, then from the Nazi;s book-burning, then the mayors wife , and where every they are to be found. In these times there was little money and food yet Liesel's foster parent took in a Jew, even though they knew the consequence.      Rosa and Hans bravery reminds me of a character in The Zookeeper's Wife by Diane Ackerman. Jan and Antonina use their zoo to put Jews in an abandoned animal habitats and hide them from the Nazi's, who want them dead. Both characters know the danger of what their doing, but do it to save the lives of others. Jan and Antonina saved 500 Jewish lives, and you can st...

The Book Thief  By: Markus Zusak      I am reading the book The Book Thief by Markus Zusak , it is a book about  a young orphan Liesel Meminger's who's life has changed in an instant, on there way to there foster home her brother dies. At her brothers graveside there is a book The Grave Digger's Handbook left left there by accident so she took it because it was the one thing that she saw when she last saw her brother. Stealing that book was her first act of book thievery. It was also was the beginning of her love for books, with the help of her accordion playing foster father she learned to read. These are dangerous times and Liesel's foster parents are hiding a Jew in their basement her world is completely flipped upside down.      This character reminds me of my little cousin Ella because when she was 3 her mom started forgetting everything. So when her dad could not take care of Ella she had to move to Indiana and live with my aunt. She h...
